Oil Cooler

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

 

Removal

 

Remove the upper fairings. See the Upper Fairings topic for more information.

 

 

Loosen the two oil cooler bolts with a 14 mm socket. Remove the bolts and discard the sealing washers.

 

 

Remove the two oil cooler mounting bolts with a 12 mm socket.

 

Lift the oil cooler up so that its tabs clear the rubber mounts.

 

Remove the oil cooler from the motorcycle.

 

Remove the rubber grommets and metal collars from the oil cooler mounts. Inspect the pieces and replace them as needed.

 

 

To remove the hoses from the oil cooler loosen the mounting bolts with a 5 mm Allen. Separate the hoses from the oil cooler. Discard the O-rings

 

Inspect the oil cooler for damage and debris stuck in the fins.

 

Clean out the fins with compressed air and straighten any damaged fins with a small flat blade screwdriver.

 

NOTE: Always wear safety glasses when using compressed air and never point it directly at yourself or anyone else.

 

Inspect the foam on the hoses and the rubber mounts on the frame. Replace the components as needed.

 

Installation

 

 

Install the hoses and new O-rings to the oil cooler. Tighten the bolts to specification with a 5 mm Allen.

 

(Oil Hose Bolt Torque: 10 N-m or 7 lb-ft)

 

Insert the rubber grommets and metal collars into the oil cooler mounts.

 

 

Install the oil cooler so that the tabs on the bottom fit into the rubber mounts on the frame.

 

 

Insert the oil cooler mounting bolts and torque them to specification with a 12 mm socket.

 

(Oil Cooler Mounting Bolt Torque: 10 N-m or 7 lb-ft)

 

Connect the oil cooler hoses to the engine. Use new sealing washers with the banjo bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification with a 14 mm Socket.

 

(Oil Banjo Bolt Torque: 23 N-m or 16.5 lb-ft)
